Return to Reason

Romans 1:17-32

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (KJV).

From the beginning of life, man has known God — always aware of the existence of a power vastly greater than the feeble human mind is able to comprehend. The need for direct revelation is eliminated when one comes to the realization that God is evident in everyday life. God has given humans the ability to know Him through His creation, through other people, through the complexities of life, through the God-ordained standards set out for us by God through Moses and later through Jesus Christ, who came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it; to be the ultimate intercessor.

Creation glorifies the Creator and speaks of His greatness, hence, there is no excuse to deny God on the basis of not experiencing Him: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead” (v. 20). Creation reflects His divinity. Jesus speaks on the ability to know God in Matthew 7:7 and says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” (KJV). Those who earnestly seek will not be denied knowledge of God.

The very essence of having the ability to contemplate the existence of a higher-power is proof in itself there is a designer who instills in humans, from birth, absolute morals and an innate sense of an extraordinary existence beyond this physical life. But man has chosen to cast God aside and chase after the desires of his heart, perverting God’s law and worship, giving attention over to idols and the lusts of the flesh; heeding worship to the created rather than the Creator, distorting the image of God through human understanding by the means of narcissism, humanism, and ultimately, mainstream science.

In The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin talks about the complexity of the eyeball. Many creationists misquote this passage from Chapter 4: Difficulties of the Theory to support that Charles Darwin believed there was no possible theory as to how the intricacy of the eyeball could develop without a creator. This is not fair to the quote and is an underhand approach. Analyzing the quote in its fullness proves the fallacy that it presented by Darwin:

“Organs of extreme Perfection and Complication.– To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree. When it was first said that the sun stood still and the world turned round, the common sense of mankind declared the doctrine false; but the old saying of Vox populi, vox Dei, as every philosopher knows, cannot be trusted in science. Reason tells me, that if numerous gradations from a simple and imperfect eye to one complex and perfect can be shown to exist, each grade being useful to its possessor, as is certainly the case; if further, the eye ever varies and the variations be inherited, as is likewise certainly the case and if such variations should be useful to any animal under changing conditions of life, then the difficulty of believing that a perfect and complex eye could be formed by natural selection, though insuperable by our imagination, should not be considered as subversive of the theory. How a nerve comes to be sensitive to light, hardly concerns us more than how life itself originated; but I may remark that, as some of the lowest organisms, in which nerves cannot be detected, are capable of perceiving light, it does not seem impossible that certain sensitive elements in their sarcode should become aggregated and developed into nerves, endowed with this special sensibility.”

Reason (logos) is presented in the first sentence. This intrinsic reasoning shows Darwin that the eye developing through natural selection is “absurd”. From what is observable and testable, through actual science, there is no natural explanation as to how this could come about through the process of natural selection. Unwilling to entertain the possibility of a Creator, Darwin manufactures evidence through a theory, “perverting” logic to fit a narrative and passing it off as science, earnestly seeking to reject the variable of God from the equation. What he claims to be “reason” is, in essence, the exact opposite. Instead of providing an explanation for the eyeball, he ignores the refutation (ignoratio elenchi) and states that it should “hardly concern” us compared to how life originated. Darwin’s evidence is a fabrication of “knowledge” to support his hypothesis, not to test it. Woe to those men who are wise in their own eyes,  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7). By “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man,” (v. 22).

The very word ‘universe’ that has been deified to replace God with the cosmos speaks of the beginning. The prefix, uni-, meaning “one”, paired with the root word ‘verse’, meaning a spoken word or sentence, come together to define ‘uni-verse’ as “a single word or sentence.” In John 1:1 we see, “In the beginning was the Word (logos), and the Word (logos) was with God, and the Word (logos) was God” (KJV). In the creation account of Genesis, all life and matter are spoken into existence. Through words, God created the world; out of nothing, there was something. “…let God be true, but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4, KJV).

Awake, O sleepers; come out of your slumber. God is calling us to repentance, He is calling us back to holiness. By refusing to acknowledge God’s standards and laws, we break the holy natural order established from the beginning of time, creating a broken world in a reality based on our own understanding. As a by-product of rebellion, our society has created weak men and broken women. It is no fault of God, only our own. Change will not manifest unless we repent and turn back to the holy natural order that has been established for us; unless we turn from our own wisdom and back to the Logos of the universe. You choose your path in life, you decide what to follow. Whether that is God’s intended plan or the one you have set out for yourself will produce the end results.

We need strong men, we need leaders. We need Godly women, mothers and partners. It is only together, when we unite in an attempt to reach God’s standards, that we will break the secular matrix that surrounds us. Wake up, men and women, for you are called to greater roles than that of which society programs you for; you are called to roles that God ordained. You are more than a degenerating body applied to Newtonian Physics and Enlightenment thought patterns. You are not the result of atoms endlessly bashing and crashing about, creating chemically induced emotions and experiences; you are a soul with a body that is fighting an invisible spiritual war.

It is a war for your soul.

Do not lose hope, place your faith in Jesus Christ and turn back to your intended purpose. Turn off the television and cleave to the Word. Break from your technology and dive into literature that deepens your understanding of God and the evils that surround you. Man can reach his own standards, but never God’s on his own. Humanity needs the grace given by God through the death of Christ. We need to flee from worldly knowledge, placing trust back into the hands of the Creator; we need to return to reason.

“There is none righteous, no, not one… For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3, KJV).

God bless,

Job 28:28
